Availability and Guarantee
A. AWTS employees will be required to be available to start work eight (8) days per month which may also require them to work additional days in order to complete a tour of duty/return to his/her home terminal.
B. AWTS employees in the Salina Hub may be used on their designed workdays for any work or training assignments required of a brakeman/yard service employees.

NOTE: It is not intended for these AWTS employees to be used on their designated or non-designated workdays as a conductor/foreman.
C. AWTS employees will be guaranteed a minimum of eight (8) days pay, at the applicable foreman basic daily rate, per month so long as the employee performs all work and training for which called or is available for service on his/her schedule days.
NOTE: In the event an AWTS employee is called on their designated or non-designated workday as a conductor/foreman but does not perform service, he or she will not be considered as unavailable as provided in Paragraph C above.
D. The obligation by an employee in AWTS to be available for work and/or training on a designated work day is not affected or altered by that employee accepting, i.e., volunteering for emergency or extra work on a non-designated work day. The performance of additional work by this employee in AWTS will not alter in any manner his or her obligations as an employee in AWTS or change his or her designated work days.
1. The earnings made by an employee in AWTS on a non-designated work day will not be used to offset his or her AWTS guarantee. |
E. If an employee in AWTS fails to be available for work or training during two (2) designated workdays within a rolling 120-day period, the employee shall be immediately removed from AWTS and he or she shall be placed in furlough status.
1. An employee removed from AWTS pursuant to Article II, E above will not be allowed to bid back to AWTS for a minimum of 180-days.
2. An employee removed from AWTS pursuant to Article II, E above for a second time, will not be allowed to bid back to AWTS in the future. NOTE: In the event an AWTS employee is called on their designated or non-designated workday as a conductor/foreman but does not perform service, he or she will not be considered as unavailable as provided in Paragraph E above. |
F. An employee in AWTS will not be eligible to observe unused personal leave or single days of vacation.
G. An employee in AWTS will be allowed to observe his or her scheduled weeks of vacation if his or her vacation was scheduled prior to accepting the AWTS option.

An AWTS employee who observes his/her scheduled vacation in accordance with Paragraph E above will have his/her monthly guarantee offset by his/her vacation earnings should they fall on a designated work/training day. 2. An AWTS employee who observes his/her scheduled vacation in accordance with Paragraph E above will not have his/her monthly guarantee offset by his/her vacation earnings should they fall on other than a designated work/training day. |
H. Salina Hub employees in AWTS will not be required to work and/or train outside of the Salina Hub, however may be required to attend classroom training outside of the Salina Hub (i.e. rules exams).
