Scenarios and examples of how Timekeeping will pay Dogcatching
1) Extra Conductor A is called for 7am and instructed at time of call that he is being called for multiple hours of service relief and to contact the dispatcher for instructions. He is deadheaded to a siding 23 miles beyond switching limits and brings in train 1. After arriving at the terminal, he is sent out again for train 2 which is now parked in the same siding (23 miles away). In this instance, the conductor will be allowed 130 miles for the 92 miles operated within the zone, and overtime after 8 hours, if applicable. Since he was called under the terms of Rule 31 and no trains were beyond 25 miles, and his total zone miles was 92, no additional penalties or new days are payable.
2) Same scenario as #1 except train 2 is 50 miles from the terminal limits. The conductor will be allowed 130 run miles for the 96 miles operated within the zone (23+23+25+25), and a basic day zone penalty for getting train 2 beyond 25 mile zone. This penalty covers the 50 actual round trip miles operated beyond the 25 mile zone.
3) Extra Conductor B is called for 9pm and instructed at time of call that she is being called in Zone service and to contact dispatcher for location of trains. She is deadheaded 75 miles to get Train 1, and works it back to the terminal and is released from service. Since she was called under the terms of Rule 31, and picked up train 1 beyond the 25 mile radius, she would be paid 130 miles for the 50 miles operated within the zone (25+25), and a basic day zone penalty for operating beyond the 25 mile zone. The penalty payment covers the 100 miles (50+50) operated outside the 25 mile zone.
4) Extra Conductor C is called for Noon and instructed they are in Multiple/Zone service and to contact dispatcher for location of trains. The conductor is instructed to get 3 trains, with Train 1 being 10 miles from the switching limits, Train 2 being 15 miles from switching limits, and Train 3 being 17 miles from switching limits, however the conductor departs in a carryall at 930pm for train 3. The conductor will be allowed 130 run miles for the 50 miles operated within the zone on the first 2 trains (10+10+15+15), and a basic day new day payment for getting train 3 and departing at 930pm which was after the 8 hours on duty restriction. The overtime stops when the new day payment begins for departing after 8 hours, which means the conductor will earn 1 hours 30 minutes overtime in addition to the basic day and new day.
5) Same scenario at #1 however Conductor A is NOT informed at time of call he is in Zone or Multiple service. In this instance, the conductor will be allowed 130 miles for the 46 miles operated on Train 1, and a new day/second trip basic day for the 50 miles operated on Train 2.
6) Same scenario as #2 however Conductor A is NOT informed at time of call he is in Zone or Multiple service. In this instance, the conductor will be allowed 130 miles for the 46 miles operated on Train 1, and a new day/second trip basic day for the 100 miles operated on Train 2.
7) Same scenario as #3 however Conductor B is NOT informed at time of call he is in Zone or Multiple service. In this instance, the conductor will be allowed 150 miles for the 150 miles operated on Train 1.
