Dear Member,

We have received great response with thousands of members enrolling in the new Long-Term Voluntary Disability Plan (VDP) and taking advantage of this benefit to protect their income in the event of a long-term disability. We thank those who have taken that important step.

Those who have not enrolled still have an opportunity to do so thanks to an extension of the open enrollment period for the VDP. The last day to enroll is now January 15th, 2020. There are two ways to enroll:
  1. Talk to a Benefit Specialist by calling 224-770-5328. If lines are busy, please leave a message. By leaving a message, you are securing your ability to enroll.
NOTE: The Enrollment Center will be closed on 12/24, 12/25, 12/31, and 1/1.
  2. Self-enroll by visiting www.smart-vltd.com.

Below are a few highlights of the new plan:
  • Stacks on top of and pays in addition to other benefits such as the RRB or VSTD.
  • Guaranteed renewable: Coverage can’t be canceled. (It remains in force up to age 72 as long as premiums are paid).
  • 24-hour coverage: You are covered on and off the job.
  • Portable: You can retain coverage even if you are furloughed or suspended.
  • Premiums are locked: There is no increase in premiums as you get older.
  • Previous MetLife participants are guaranteed approved for a monthly benefit of up to $1,000.

Remember: Open enrollment ends January 15, 2020.
For more information or to enroll, contact your local field supervisor, visit www.smart-vltd.com or call the SMART TD VDP Enrollment Center at 224-770-5328 .
